About
Josh Bermudez, 21, attends the University of Miami Frost School of Music. He graduated from New World School of the Arts in downtown Miami, FL.
In May 2013, Josh received the Outstanding Guitar Solo Award at the Essentially Ellington Competition in New York City. Additionally in 2014, Josh was a part of the prestigious Brubeck Summer Jazz Colony in Lake Tahoe, California. He is a 2014 National YoungArts Winner and was the guitarist for the high school jazz combo at the Grammy Camp Jazz Session in Los Angeles, CA in January 2014, as well as the high school big band at the Grammy Camp Jazz Session in January 2015.
In June 2014, Josh was recognized by Downbeat Magazine in their 37th Annual Student Music Awards as an Outstanding High School Soloist. He was also selected to be a part of the 2014-15 Thelonious Monk National Performing Arts High School All-Star Jazz Septet, playing at the annual Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition and All-Star Gala at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, CA in November of 2014. He appeared at the Jazz Education Network Annual Conference in San Diego, California in January 2015 with both the Monk Septet and the New World School of the Arts top combo.
Lately, aside from school, Josh spends his time gigging and teaching around the Miami, FL area, as well as composing music. Some of Josh’s original compositions can be heard on the New World School of the Arts Jazz Combo One’s CD Crystal Blue (2016).
